March 3rd-7th

This week we were very busy learning and exploring.  We made and prepared food, painted, played in Daisy's Diner, explored with animals, manipulated clay, created pretend food using different materials, performed while using the dramatic play clothes, participated in several math centers and even investigated boats.

Here the children were making 'Fruit Kabobs'.  They washed their hands, prepared the food, made the kabobs and then even wrote out the recipes when they were done.  The best part, they had the option to eat their kabob.

In the next several photos, the children were working on painting or drawing pictures of fruit that we got from out kitchen.  They have been focusing on the colors they see as well as the shape and details of what they see.

The children have also been discussing centerpieces and presentation of food and tables for Daisy's Diner.  Below you will see some pictures of the students drawing and brainstorming ways to make a centerpiece.  They have also started 'decorating' our snack and lunch tables with centerpieces.  Soon, they will be making their own centerpieces for our tables.

Below are several different pictures of the students involved with many different activities and explorations involving blocks, animals and water.  We have begun to discuss the difference of water animals versus land animals.  They have worked collaboratively to build zoos together.  They have even started drawing out a 'blueprint' of a zoo they would like to create.

While we were setting out the snack for the day, Danny wondered what was inside the green pepper, "I think it's a ball."  He shook the pepper and it sounded like a a little ball was inside.  We decided to not only cut open the pepper, but also an apple, kiwi and a pear.  The children predicted what was inside, how many and what colors.  We will be planting the 'seeds' that were found.

Dramatic Play is a huge hit in our classroom.  They children have been using the dress-up clothes, singing, dancing, and role-playing in the kitchen.
